YAPHANK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team fell victim to an early six run deficit and wound up losing 10-2 at the hands of the Eastern Connecticut Warriors Sunday at Baseball Heaven. OW concludes the week at 1-2 while ECONN improves to 2-1.

ECONN posted two runs in the opening inning off three walks and an error and followed with four more runs, four walks an an error in the second inning to knock OW starter Ryan Bresnahan out of the game. Old Westbury scored in the fourth inning off a double by Ryan Blanco to that sent Benjamin Farias across for the first run. ECONN added three more runs in the fourth and its final run in the sixth farme to take a commanding 10-1 lead. In the eighth, Ali Ferreiras grounded to second to score Joel Santos from third to close out the scoring.

Benjamin Farias (2-3, R) and Ryan Blanco (2-4, R) led the way for the Panthers with multiple hits. Blanco, Josef Schaetzle and Michael Weingartner banged out doubles while Farias swept a pair of bags. Anthony Orsano went 0-for-1 with three walks. Old Westbury stranded 10 Panthers on base and stole two bags.

Jim Schult triples and finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to go along with a stolen base to pace the Warriors offense. Robert Perry doubled and scored three runs while Shane Kingsley scored two. ECONN left seven Warriors on bases and swept two bases.

Ryan Bresnahan suffered the loss for OW, throwing 1.1 innings of mound work, allowing three earned runs off one hit and six walks. Four Panther relievers combined for 7.2 innings of work, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and handed out seven free passes. Old Westbury turned three double-plays and committed three errors.

Jim Schult picked up the win for ECONN, working six innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks while sitting down four Panthers on strikes. Three relievers worked the final three innings, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

NEW PALTZ HAWKS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a non-conference double-header home opener on Saturday (Mar. 12) with the New Paltz Hawks in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for noon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
