www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers softball team defeated the Purchase Panthers, 20-1 and 7-0, Sunday afternoon on the road in a Skyline Conference doubleheader. The sweep improves the first place Panthers to 15-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play, while Purchase slips to 5-11 and 0-10, respectively.
Purchase got on the board first in the opener, scoring an unearned run off OW starter
Alyssa Clancy in the opening frame. Old Westbury responded with seven runs in the second inning, in addition to 13 more scores over the next three innings to take the run rule victory.
Alyssa Clancy set the tone for Old Westbury in game one, finishing with three hits and five RBI's at the plate while firing away Old Westbury's third straight no-hitter.
After four scoreless innings in the finale, Old Westbury posted six runs on the board in fifth inning and tacked on its seventh run in the seventh to cap the scoring. Clancy notched her fifth shutout of the season with the game two victory and is one shutout away from tying her freshman record set last year.
UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a non-conference battle Tuesday (Apr. 12) with the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
