OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team swept the Yeshiva Maccabees in a Skyline Conference doubleheader Monday at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Old Westbury took game one, 14-2, and won the finale, 17-4 to improve to 15-12 on the season and 7-5 in conference action. Yeshiva slipped to 4-22 overall and 1-15 in conference play with the pair of losses.
The Panthers, after and early 1-0 deficit, took a 4-1 lead in the first on run scoring singles by
Anthony Orsano,
Josef Schaetzle and
Benjamin Farias in addition to a triple by
Ali Ferreiras that scored Schaetzle. The club tallied one run in the fourth and posted four more in the seventh and five in the eighth to pull away with the 14-2 victory.
Ranser Reyes scattered one hit and fanned three in two innings of relief to earn his first win of the season. OW starter
Tyler Levine worked two innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits while striking out two.
Steve Ferrara tossed three innings of one hit ball and
Jorge Hiraldo worked the ninth to close out the game. Zachary Weiner took for Yeshiva to drop to 2-5 on the season. He allowed 14 runs (10 earned) on 15 hits in eight innings of mound work.
Anthony Orsano and
Josef Schaetzle all had two hits in the win while
Joseph Guido,
Ali Ferreiras and
Chris DeGennaro followed with two. Orsano drove in four Panthers and scored three times and
Joseph Guido drove in three runs. Old Westbury totaled 16 stolen bases in the game lead by
Benjamin Farias and Guido's four and three theft game, respectively. Yaniv Lautman paced Yeshiva's offense with two singles.
In game two,
Josef Schaetzle put Old Westbury on the board in the first inning with a two –run sacrifice fly that platted
Melvin Simmons and
Anthony Orsano. The Panthers added to the lead with nine runs in the third off five hits and five errors and tacked on one in the fifth and five more in the sixth.
Kevin Briffa started game two and worked one inning before giving way to
Michael Duran (1-0), who picked up his first win of the season.

Jose Pena,
Alex Wilson and
Alex Abanavas all worked one inning on the hill for Old Westbury. OW pitching struck out six while allowing four hits and two walks. Joe Feigenbaum was dealt the loss for Yeshiva (0-3) after going five full. He allowed 14 runs (eight earned) on nine hits and six walks.
Chris DeGennaro registered a season-high three hits and five runs batted in to lead the Panther offense.

Ryan Blanco produced multiple hits on the game to add to the Old Westbury offensive attack.
Anthony Orsano swept two of OW's seven bases in the finale.
