www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team rallied from in the ninth inning to edge the visiting Baruch Bearcats, 8-7, in a non-conference battle Thursday from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. OW improves to 19-15 on the season while Baruch dips to 11-15.
Baruch jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Alvin Mata tripled home two runs in the opening frame off Old Westbury starting pitcher

Joseph Guido that allowed
Kevin Cohen to score. Baruch answered back with two runs in the fourth on a run scoring triple (Pooti Ben Pradubsri) and double (Anthony Melendez). John Yuksekol doubled down the left field line to score Melendez in the fifth, adding to Baruch's 5-1 lead. Old Westbury planted three runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3. Kevin Cohen. Guido stole third and scored on a wild pitch to close out the seventh inning scoring. Baruch scored on a wild pitch in the eighth while Old Westbury matched them with a
Benjamin Farias score on an error by shortstop Richard Melendez. Baruch took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth after scoring on an error by shortstop
Benjamin Farias.
Melvin Simmons led off the ninth with a single and stole second and third. After
Anthony Orsano drew a walk,
Josef Schaetzle poked a grounder over to second base that allowed Simmons to score.
Chris DeGennaro followed with a single that scored pinch runner
Alex Abanavas to knot the game at 7-7.
Michael Weingartner entered the game as a pinch runner for DeGennaro and turned out to be a clutch runner. Weingartner stole third and advanced home on a throwing error by catcher Manuel Guerreo for the game-winning run.
Joseph Guido collected three RBIs off a pair of singles while scoring one run and stealing a pair of bases in leading the Panthers.
Kevin Cohen banged out a pair of singles, scored two runs and stole four bags.
Melvin Simmons,
Benjamin Farias and
Euris Turbi also swept two stolen bases each. Richard Melendez, John Yuksekol and Alvin Mata all registered three hits in defeat for Baruch.
Tyler Levine worked four innings on the mound and was charged with the no decision.
Steven Chapter struck out four batters, allowing one unearned run on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
Marvin Rosario (1-1) notched his first victory of the season, battling out the final 1.2 innings. Justin Torres took the loss for Baruch after working 1.2 innings, surrendering three runs on three walks and a hit.
