www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers baseball team fell 4-2 to the Stevens Ducks in a non-conference road battle Friday afternoon from Dobbelaar Baseball Field in Hoboken, New Jersey. With the loss, Old Westbury moves to 19-16 on the season while the Ducks climb to 8-17.
Old Westbury jumped on the board first with a pair of runs in the second frame. Three straight singles by
Josef Schaetzle,
Chris DeGennaro and
Benjamin Farias set the stage for
Ali Ferreiras, who drove in Schaetzle on a fielder's choice. Ferreiras then stole second allowing DeGennaro to score on a throwing error by catcher Denis Ackemann. Stevens cut the deficit in the fifth with a run scoring single by Tom Phillips that scored Dan Allen from second. Two more runs in the sixth gave Stevens a 3-2 lead as Denis Ackerman scored on an error by pitcher
Corey Murphy and two batters later Corey Linden scored Russ Grimes on a sacrifice fly. Stevens added an insurance run in the seventh as Russ Grimes roped a double down the left field line to score Ackerman for the 4-2 lead.
Josef Schaetzle collected his 13th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and scored one run to lead Old Westbury.

Benjamin Farias and
Ali Ferreiras stole all three of Old Westbury's nation leading 177 bags. Guido went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Russ Grimes went 2-for-4 and Denis Ackermann scored two in leading the Ducks to victory.
Corey Murphy (2-5) was dealt the loss after battling the Ducks for eight innings on the mound. Murphy registered three strikeouts while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. Kevin Matthews (4-2) earned the victory for Stevens after working his first complete game of the season. Matthews struck out six batters and surrendered two runs (one earned) on eight hits and one walk.
RAMAPO ROADRUNNERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a non-conference battle Monday (Apr. 25) with the Ramapo Roadrunners in Mahwah, New Jersey. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. Noon from Jeff Maund Memorial Field.
