www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers (21-18) will take the field at 3 p.m. today against the winner of No. 1 St. Joseph's-L.I. and No. 3 Mount Saint Vincent in Farmingdale, New York in the semi-final round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. Farmingdale State (21-12) got the best of Old Westbury this morning, winning an 11-2 decision to advance to the Championship for the fourth consecutive season. Old Westbury will need to win the 3 p.m. matchup to make a return to the championship round for the second straight season.

Josef Schaetzle platted the games initial run in the first inning with a groundout RBI that scored
Melvin Simmons from third to give the Panthers an early one run advantage. Farmingdale State responded with a run of its own in the second as Brandon Cruz tripled and scored on a double by Ryan Rubenstein to knot the game at one. The score would remain tied at one until the sixth when Farmingdale State's offensive erupted to take a 5-1 lead on four hits and an error. Back-to-back singles set the tone for David Zilnicki who reached on an error by second baseman
Joseph Guido which allowed Ryan McAllister to score from third for the go ahead run. Frank Yera scored on a wild pitch that advanced Zilnicki over to second. Run scoring singles by Brandon Cruz and Ryan Rubenstein gave Farmingdale State at 5-1 advantage. Farmingdale went onto score six more runs over the final three innings, tacking on one in the seventh, four in the eighth and another in the ninth.

Old Westbury was limited to five hits, led by
Josef Schaetzle's solo homer in the ninth and finished with two RBI on the game. Brandon Cruz, Ryan Rubenstein and Ryan McAllister paced Farmingdale State with multiple hits while Cruz scored three runs and Kevin Curtis and Frank Yera scored twice.
Ryan Bresnahan (1-6) was tagged with Old Westbury's loss after working seven innings. He was charged with nine runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out three. OW's defense made four errors on the game.
Kevin Briffa worked two innings in relief of Bresnahan, giving up two runs (one earned). CJ Bula (6-0) went the distance and struck out three Panthers to pick up the win for Farmingdale State. Bula surrendered two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk.
