www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers softball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday with a 2-1 defeat by the visiting Hunter Hawks in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament. The third-seeded Panthers conclude the season at 20-12 while sixth-seeded Hunter improves to 22-14-2. Hunter advances to face second-seeded Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon.
Hunter opened the scoring in the fourth inning when they took a one-run lead om a error by third baseman
Lauren Isaac that scored Sophia Ponce from third. Old Westbury tied the score in the sixth frame with a score by
Samantha Howley off a triple by
Samantha Siegler. Hunter scored the eventual game-winner in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Crissette Maxwell that drove in Shamel Jaime.
Alyssa Clancy fanned four batters and was tagged with the loss for Old Westbury, moving her record to 18-10 on the season. Clancy went the distance for the 24th time this season and surrendering two runs (no earned) on six hits. Angel Iacovetti improved to 12-9 and earned Hunter's victory with a two-hit, 10 strikeout performance. Iacovetti was charged with one run on two hits and three walks.
Samantha Siegler crushed an RBI triple in the sixth inning while
Jennifer Jean singled to register Old Westbury's first hit in the fourth inning. Sophia Ponce tripled and Arielle Zieff doubled to register extra base hits for Hunter.
