OSWEGO, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team opened up its season Friday afternoon at the Oswego State Tournament, falling 1-0 to the Alfred Saxons. Old Westbury will take on the loser of the Oswego State/ D'Youville matchup tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the consolation game while Alfred plays in the championship at 3 p.m.
Old Westbury, which entered the contest with nine new players on its roster, put up a fight against a scrappy Alfred team.
Alfred's Frankie Mannino scored the games lone goal at the 59:26 mark to provide the final margin. Mannino settled a pass from Eric Deemer from the left side and sent it to the right diving Old Westbury keeper
Pablo Diaz.
Alfred posted an 11-1 edge in shots, including 4-1 on shots on goal. Alfred also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Pablo Diaz made three stops in goal for Old Westbury while Alfred's Elliot Thorpe earned the one save shutout.
OSWEGO STATE TOURNAMENT CONSOLATION GAME UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 3), taking on the loser of tonight's Oswego State/D'Youville matchup in the consolation game of the Oswego State Tournament in Oswego, New York. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. from the Laker Soccer Field.
