Old Westbury vs. Maritime Gameday Program
OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Saturday in a rematch of the 2010 Skyline Conference Championship against the Maritime Privateers. Old Westbury moved to 1-7 on the season and 1-1 in conference action while Maritime improves to 6-2-2 and 2-0, respectively.
The Privateers jumped out to a 1-0 lead Saturday on a goal by Raphael Tavares from Jason Tursi. The eventual game-winning goal occurred in the 25th minute and was Tavares' third goal of the season. Old Westbury outshot Maritime in the opening 45 minute, 14-6, despite going into the half down 1-0.
Maritime's second goal was scored in the 87th minute by David Hraska Jr. Jack Blunden assisted on Hraska's second goal of the 2011 campaign.
Pablo Diaz tallied three saves for Old Westbury in defeat. John Dunne and Michael Vanadia combined for Maritime's clean sheet, making six and one save, respectively.
Old Westbury rattled off five second half shots, compared to Maritime's eight. OW held a 19-14 advantage in shots including 7-5 on target.
Scott Carey led Old Westbury with four shot attempts while and
George Villalta registered two shots on target. Old Westbury finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
YORK CARDINALS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle at home as they entertain the York Cardinals on Monday (Sept. 26) in Old Westbury, New York. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. from Panther Park.
