(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team outscored the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins 33-19 in the first-half en route to picking up a 63-48 Skyline Conference road victory Tuesday evening from the Peter Jay Sharp Center.  The win improves OW to 6-6 on the year and 2-2 in conference play while MSV fell to 3-7 and 0-3, respectively. 

Old Westbury got on the board first with a layup from Antoinette Jolly.  Mount Saint Vincent responded with a 7-2 run over the next 1:13 to take a 7-2 advantage, their largest lead of the game.  Moments later, Deslyn Applewhaite connected on a jumper to put Old Westbury ahead for good, 16-15, with 9:14 remaining in the half.  Old Westbury used a 16-4 over the final 8:22 of the first half to take a 3319 lead into the half. 

Old Westbury held a double-digit lead for the entire second-half, with Mount Saint Vincent getting as close as 51-41 with 7:38 remaining.  OW replied with a quick 8-0 run from 7:14 to 4:42 to take a 59-41 lead. 

Deslyn Applewhaite poured in her fourth straight double-figure performance, finishing with 18 points (9-12 FG) and 10 rebounds to post her second career double-double.  Applewhaite rejected a career-high five blocks to go with four assists in the victory.  Clarissa Gallagher followed with 15 points, sticking 4-of-6 from three-point territory and pulling down six rebounds off the bench.  Denise Zajonc * added 11 points, five offensive rebounds and four steals while Anoinette Jolly went for nine rebounds, six assits, three steals and two blocks.  Ja'Taeliah Forde registered nine points and six rebounds (four offensive) as Abigail Williams grabbed seven boards off the bench.   

Sarah Kluth led Mount Saint Vincent with 13 points and Andrea Sinaly scored eight and dished out six assists.  Kara McNish pulled-down a game-high 16 rebounds while Kluth and Tanisha Montague both nabbed four steals. 

Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Vincent from the field 39.1 percent (25-64) to 23.1 percent (18-78).  Old Westbury connected on 6-of-16 from three-point range while Mount Saint Vincent knocked down 3-of-17.  OW also enjoyed a 55-48 rebounding advantage, while MSV pulled-down 26 offensive boards that resulted in just 10 second chance points.  Old Westbury also committed a season-high 36 turnovers of which Mount Saint Vincent converted into 26 points. 

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for Skyline Conference action on Thursday (Jan. 12) when they hit the road for the "Battle of the Panthers" with the Purchase College Panthers in Purchase, New York.  Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m.
