www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball won their sixth straight game after posting a 74-48 Skyline Conference victory over the Sage Gators on Sunday in Troy, New York. The win improves OW to 11-6 on the season and 6-2 in conference play while Sage dropped to 7-10 and 3-5, respectively.
Old Westbury led by as many as 35 points and never trailed in the game. The Panthers scored 50 points off a season-high 36 forced turnovers and saw 10 different Panthers put the ball in the basket. Old Westbury also tallied 28 assists on 40 field goals made in an efficient offensive effort.
Old Westbury never trailed and scored the first 13 points of the game to jump out to a double-digit lead just 6:11 into the contest. Nicole Lanteri scored the first point for Sage, making it a 13-1 game until
Clarissa Gallagher drained a three-pointer to give Old Westbury a 16-1 lead. Old Westbury outscored Sage 28-9 over the final 11 minutes to take a 44-13 lead into the locker room.
Old Westbury came out of the half on a 6-2 run to take a 35 point lead off a jumper by
Clarissa Gallagher at the 15:27 mark to make it 50-15, OW's largest lead of the game.
Clarissa Gallagher led the Panthers with 19 on 6¬-of-12 shooting from the field.
Deslyn Applewhaite followed with her third straight double-double, combining 13 points and 15 rebounds (tied career-high) to go along with six steals (season-high) and two blocks in 30 minutes of action.
Denise Zajonc * added 11 points while
Antoinette Jolly registered 10 points, seven assists and five steals.
Nicole Lanteri paced Sage with 16 points and Sarah Carciobolo and Carly Vallee followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Chelsea Martin and Kara Hackett each registered eight rebounds.
Old Westbury outshot Sage from the field 40.4 percent (23-57) to 26.4 percent (16-65). Old Westbury connected on 4-of-11 from three-point land while Sage hit 6-of-27. Old Westbury knocked down 24-of-32 from the free-throw line while Sage sank 10-of-13. OW also enjoyed a 45-44 rebounding advantage.
FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for Skyline Conference action on Wednesday (Jan. 25) when they host the Farmingdale State Rams in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 6 p.m. inside the Clark Athletic Center.
