BROOKLY, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – With the second overtime match this season, the SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team lost a tough Skyline Conference battle, 2-1, in double overtime on the road against the NYU-Poly Jays from Aviator Field. With the loss, the Panthers (3-12) now fall to 2-3 in conference play while the Jays (6-8) improved to 3-3.
NYU-Poly's Nick Michalczewski opened the scoring in the third minute with a header into the back of the net for an early one goal advantage. Sal DeVito and Giovanni Ormache set up the play to earn the assist.
The Panthers controlled much of the second half, outshooting the Jays, 8-3. With the victory in sight, Old Westbury's
Tana Weekes directed the ball past NYU-Poly goalie Brendan Finn in the 62nd minute to knot the game at one-all and send it into the first overtime.
DJ Stock was credited with the assist, his second of the season.
With a scoreless first overtime, the Jays scored in the 109th minute with Sal DeVito connecting from a Alex Bauman's cross to seal the 2-1 double overtime victory.
The Panthers edged the Jays on shots, outshooting NYU-Poly 16-15 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Scott Carey took a game-high six shots (one on goal) while
Tana Weekes recorded two on goal.
Marcelo Guardado took the loss with three save and two goals allowed while Brendan Finn earned the win with four saves and one goal allowed.
MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference road battle on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Maritime Privateers in Throggs Neck, New York. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Reinhart Field.
