WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL DOWNED IN FOUR AT FARMINGDALE STATE

Old Westbury takes on Mount Saint Mary and Sage at home on October 20

FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team won the opening set 25-18 and fell in sets 2-4 (19-25, 23-25, 22-25) against the Farmingdale State Rams on the road in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening from the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.  The setback leaves Old Westbury (7-20) at 2-3 in conference play while Farmingdale State (10-7) improved to 4-1.

Old Westbury jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, hitting a remarkable .321 in the opening frame.  Old Westbury then dropped the second, third and fourth sets, as the Rams won their fourth Skyline Conference match of the 2012 season.  Farmingdale State hit .345 in the second set to Old Westbury's .025.  In the third set, Old Westbury edged Farmingdale State in hitting .167 to .129 while the Rams closed out the match with a .226 to .062 hitting advantage in the fourth set. 

Kimberly Catania paced the way for the Panthers with a 24-assist, 19-dig double-double, her 19th of the season.  Jocelyn Small nailed down 10 kills in 19 swings to hit .474, while Fareeda Roushdy and Jennifer Jean accumulated nine and seven kills, respectively.   Allie Giancola played lockdown defense, registering a match-high 25 digs.  Farmingdale State were led by Morgan Valinoti (12 kills), Megan Pisciotta (37 digs) and Sarah Palladino's (4 aces) match-high performances. 

In the end, Farmingdale State held the advantage over Old Westbury in hitting percentage (.250 to .133), kills (42 to 35) and aces (10 to 8) while OW led in digs (88 to 64) and blocks (5 to 1).

MOUNT SAINT MARY AND SAGE UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court against the Skyline Conference foes Mount Saint Mary and Sage on Saturday (Oct. 20) in Old Westbury, New York.  Old Westbury takes on Mount Saint Mary at 11 a.m. followed by Sage at 1 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
