NEW PALTZ, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 7-0 setback against the New Paltz Hawks in non-conference road action Wednesday afternoon from Alumni Field. The loss moves Old Westbury to 9-10 on the season while New Paltz improved to 12-5-1.
Old Westbury grabbed the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship Tournament and will host No. 5 Sage in Old Westbury, New York on Saturday at 1 p.m.
After 27 minutes of scoreless action, Sarah Painter finished off a corner kick to beat Old Westbury keeper
Heather Grosso in the 28th minute for the game-winner. Emily Rokitowski doubled the New Paltz advantage at the 44:30 mark to send the Hawks into the half with a two goal lead. New Paltz opened up the scoring gates in the second half, netting goals in the 51st, 57th, 70th, 76th and 85th minutes to earn the win at home.
In the end, New Paltz held the advantage in shots (22-2), shots on goal (13-1) and corner kicks (10-0).
Anna Noens fired Old Westbury's lone shot on goal while Samantha Abravanel had four on target, including two that landed in the back of the net.
Heather Grosso made five saves in defeat for Old Westbury as Stephanie Vega recorded one save to go along with the clean sheet for New Paltz.
SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT VS. SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for the opening round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday (Oct. 27), taking on the Sage Gators in Old Westbury, New York. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Panther Park.
