KETTELL TO MAYBIE ADVANCE WOMEN’S SOCCER INTO SKYLINE SEMIFINAL

JoAnna Kettell and Stephanie Maybie led Old Westbury past Sage; Panthers travel Wednesday to take on top-seeded Mount Saint Mary

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team defeated the fifth-seeded Sage Gators 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament from Panther Park.  The win moves fourth-seeded Old Westbury (10-10) into Wednesday's semifinal at top-seeded Mount Saint Mary (15-2-1) in Newburgh, New York. 

After a quite first-half, Old Westbury struck first in the 60th minute as JoAnna Kettell found Stephanie Maybie and she did the rest to set OW's single-season scoring record with her 18th goal to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. 

Sage scored in the 72nd minute to knot the game at one-all as Melissa Spring found Kelsey Woron who scored her sixth goal of the season. 

The Panthers scored again in the 85th minute as Kettell found Maybie for her 19th goal of the season (fifth game-winner).  Kettell's assist was her ninth of the season, breaking a single-season program record set by Kelsey Durkot in 2010. 

Kettell added to her career day by scoring the game's final goal for the Panthers in the 89th minute to make the score 3-1, courtesy of Morgan Zuhoski's seventh helper of the season.  The goal was Kettell's career-best 12th of the season. 

Old Westbury outshot Sage 17-11, including 10-8 on goal while holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Old Westbury goalkeeper Heather Grosso recorded seven saves while Sage goalkeeper Teagan Waddingham made seven saves in defeat.  Grosso improved to 4-2 on the season. 

SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL AT MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday (Oct. 31), taking on the top-seeded Mount Saint Mary Knights in Newburgh, New York.  Kick-off time has not yet been announced.
