WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS AT FARMINGDALE STATE, 3-0

Old Westbury returns home on Saturday afternoon to battle Mount Saint Vincent in conference action

FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – Sophomore goalie Caitlin Thomas recorded a season-high eight saves, however, it was not enough as the SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team was bested by Farmingdale State, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in a Skyline Conference match-up from Rams Field.  With the loss, the Panthers (4-8) fall to 1-2 in Skyline play, while the Rams (7-5) improve to 2-1 in conference action.

The Panthers managed only five shots in the contest, two each by sophomores Stephanie Maybie and Morgan Zuhoski.  Farmingdale State constantly pressured the Panthers' defensive line as they totaled 22 shots in the game, 11 in each half.   Ashlee Thomas surged the Rams' offensive attack as she struck for two goals on the stat sheet as Corine Magee assisted on both of Thomas' goals.

The one-two combination struck first in the 23rd minute giving Farmingdale a 1-0 advantage.  The score remained 1-0 until the duo struck again in the 51st minute as the Rams took a 2-0 lead.  Magee found Thomas on a long deep pass inside the Panthers' defensive zone.  Thomas gathered the ball and rifled a shot that went underneath the crossbar.  Megan Clearly sealed the game for the Rams putting away a cross in-front from Christina Merrill in the 82nd minute increasing Farmingdale's lead to three.  Brianna Blair made two saves to record her fourth shutout of the year for Farmingdale State.
