MEN’S HOOPS GRABS DOUBLE OT VICTORY FROM FARMINGDALE STATE, 90-88

Old Westbury downs Farmingdale State to earn conference opening victory away from home

FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team walked away with a 90-88 double-overtime road victory against the Farmingdale State Rams Thursday evening in a Skyline Conference opener from George E. Nold Hall.  With the win, Old Westbury (3-1) opens up at 1-0 in conference play while sending Farmingdale State (2-2) to 0-1. 

During the opening 20 minutes of play, Old Westbury knocked down eight three-pointers and shot 41.2 percent (14-of-34) from the field, while Farmingdale State shot 40 percent (14-of-35).  Farmingdale State took a 26-17 lead off the strength of a 10-0 run from 12:21 to 10:10.  Old Westbury's Keith Lackerson stuck a jumper in the paint with eight seconds left in the half to knot the game at 38 heading into intermission. 

Joshua Bailey's layup with 16:46 on the second-half clock capped an 11-3 Old Westbury run to open the period.  Bailey dropped in a layup with 34 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

During the first overtime, Tyrik Tucker connected on a triple to give Old Westbury a 79-76 lead with 57 second remaining.  Ryan Davis replied for Farmingdale State with 36 seconds left, drilled a three-ball to extend the game into the second-overtime.     

Omari Trebuse sank 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to begin the second overtime and give Old Westbury a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

There were nine scoring ties and 12 lead changes in the contest.

Rashawn McCarthy finished the victory with a career-high 26 points, including 6-of-10 from three-point range while recording three steals.  Tyrik Tucker followed with 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals while Kerel Mitchell went for 18 points, sinking 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.  Joshua Bailey pulled down a career-high nine rebounds to go along with eight points and two steals.

AJ Matthews led Farmingdale State with game-highs of 32 points (12-17 FG), 23 rebounds and two blocks.  Ryan Davis added 22 points, four assists and four steals while Christian Nunez chipped in with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Terence Henderson paced the Rams with six assists.   

Old Westbury shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) from the field, 45.7 percent (16-of-35) from three-point range and 50 percent (10-of-20) from the free-throw line.  Farmingdale State connected on 40.8 percent (29-of-71) from the floor, 25 percent (7-of-28) from beyond the arc and 74.2 percent (23-of-31) from the charity stripe.  Farmingdale State won the boards battle 62-29, including a 27-10 advantage off the offensive glass, resulting in 26 second chance points for the Rams.  Old Westbury converted 26 Farmingdale State turnovers into 25 points.  
    
MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference road battle on Saturday (Dec. 1) afternoon, taking on the Mount Saint Mary Knights in Newburgh New York.  Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. from the Kaplan Center.
