www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team won their third straight game after taking a 85-52 non-conference road decision against the York Cardinals on Monday evening in Jamaica, New York. Old Westbury improves to 17-7 on the season while the Cardinals fall to 2-20.
Clarissa Gallagher scored five of Old Westbury's opening seven points as the Panthers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead just 1:14 into the contest. After a layup by York's Shadea Green to cut the deficit down to 15-11, Old Westbury went on a 9-0 run over the next 2:16 to grab a 24-11 lead. Old Westbury outscored York 11-0 over the final 3:48 to take a 51-26 lead into the break.
York battled back in the second-half to pull within 10 points (53-43) after going on a 17-2 run over the opening 6:24 of the final stanza. Old Westbury replied with a 32-9 run over the final 13:18 to earn the victory on the road.
Antoinette Jolly led Old Westbury to victory after tallying 14 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and five assists.
Deslyn Applewhaite and
DeAndra Scott followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while
Kim Weathers added 11. Scott pulled down nine boards, Ja'Taeliah Forde had eight and Applewhite grabbed seven to lead Old Westbury's rebounding corps.
Abigail Williams registered four steals and three blocks and Scott added a pair of swats.
Shadae Rice poured in a game-high 19 points for York to go along with nine rebounds and four steals. Ishonda McFarland finished with 10 points, game-high 14 rebounds and four steals.
Joanna Josama and Shadea Green both nabbed three steals.
Old Westbury outshot York from the field 45.5 percent (35-77) to 25.3 percent (20-79). Old Westbury connected on 8-of-20 from three-point land while York went 1-of-11. Old Westbury knocked down 7-of-14 from the free-throw line while York went 11-of-21. Old Westbury held a 55-54 rebounding advantage, turning 19 offensive boards into 22 second chance points. Old Westbury converted 27 Cardinal turnovers into 25 points.
ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference matchup on Wednesday (Feb. 15) when they travel to take on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in Patchogue, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Danzi Center.
