(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team fell 65-49 on the road to the Mount Saint Mary Knights on Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action from the Kaplan Kaplan Center.  The loss ended Old Westbury's nine game win streak, bringing their record to 14-6 on the season and 8-3 in conference play while the Knights improved to 18-3 and 9-1, respectively. 

Mount Saint Mary jumped on the board first with consecutive layups by Rachel Perrone and Jen Mocanu to open the game with their largest lead of the half.  Tied at 17 all, Antoinette Jolly and Deslyn Applewhaite hit back-to-back buckets followed by a free-throw by Applewhaite as Old Westbury jumped ahead to take their largest lead of the game, 22-17, with 6:01 remaining.  Mount Saint Mary outscored the Panthers 10-5 over the final 4:48 tie send a tied game at 27-27 into the half.

Amanda Horvers connected on a three-pointer to open the half and Old Westbury replied with a Clarissa Gallagher jumper to cut the Panther deficit down to 30-29.  Mount Saint Mary answered with an 18-1 run from 18:26 to 14:06 to take a 48-30 lead.  Old Westbury pulled within 60-49 with 1:36 remaining, but were unable to overcome the 18 point deficit Mount Saint Mary built in the second half. 

Deslyn Applewhaite scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards to lead the Panthers with her sixth double-double of the season.  Kim Weathers added 10 points and three steals while DeAndra Scott had eight point and 10 rebounds off the bench.  Antoinette Jolly chipped in with eight rebounds (six offensive) and two steals.

Jen Mocanu poured in a game-high 20 points followed by Amanda Horvers' 19 to lead Mount Saint Mary to victory.  Kate Hartnett went for 10 pints and a team-best nine boards while Charneic McCullough finished with eight assists (game-high), four steals (game-high) and seven rebounds. 

Mount Saint Mary outshot Old Westbury from the field 37.7 percent (26-69) to 23.7 percent (14-59).  Old Westbury connected on 5-of-15 from three-point land while Mount Saint Mary went 5-of-18.  Old Westbury knocked down 16-of-28 from the free-throw line while Mount Saint Mary went 8-of-14.  Old Westbury earned a 49-47 rebounding advantage, turning20 offensive boards into17 points.  Mount Saint Mary converted 23 Panther turnovers into 26 points.
   
"BATTLE OF THE PANTHERS" VERSUS THE PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR TOLD WESTBURY: The Old Westbury Panthers return to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday (Feb. 7) when they host the Purchase Panthers for the "Battle of the Panthers" at home in a Skyline Conference matchup in Old Westbury, New York.  Game time is set to tip at 6 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
