OLD WESTBURY, NY 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team split a non-conference home opening doubleheader with the visiting Baruch Bearcats on Saturday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury now stands at 3-3 on the season while Baruch moved to 2-6. 

In the opener, Jennifer Jean sparked the Panther offense to lead off the fourth inning when she clubbed her first homer of the season to break a scoreless tie.  Old Westbury tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth to take a three run advantage.  Nicole Petrucci singled to lead off the sixth, followed by Jennifer Jean reaching on a single and an error by third baseman Tonniann Donde allowed Petrucci to score.  Two batters later, Corrine Protasiewicz reached on a fielder's choice to score Jean for the third and final run. 

Alyssa Clancy (1-2) surrendered just four hits and one walk to notch her first win of the season, including her 15th career shutout to go along with 10 strikeouts.  She recorded double-digit strikeouts for the fifth time of her career and was the first since May 7, 2010, when she tallied 11 against New Rochelle.  Deena Farrell (0-4) took the loss for Baruch, giving up three runs (one earned) off four hits and three walks. 

Jennifer Jean paced Old Westbury with two runs score and a solo home run.  Old Westbury and Baruch both registered four hits and left six runners on base.  Baruch's Chelsea DeGuzman banged out a pair of singles in three at bats to lead Baruch. 

In the finale, both teams played a scoreless game until the sixth frame, when Baruch took hold of a 2-0 lead.  Melanie Pellegrino hit a two-out single that advanced her and scored both Nicole Flint and Courtney White to lift the Bearcats past Old Westbury.  Samantha Siegler singled in the sixth to move Jennifer Jean over to third, but Corrine Protasiewicz lined out to left field to end the inning. 

Deborah Ciccarelli (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season, despite as solid outing, as the Panther offense failed to produce runs for her  Ciccarelli scattered 11hits over seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out three.  Nicole Flint (2-2) was victorious for Baruch, striking out seven in seven innings, allowing four hits and one walk.

Baruch outhit Old Westbury, 11-4, as four different Panthers singled in the game.  Jennifer Jean drew the games only walk in the sixth inning and Nicole Petrucci stole the only base in the finale.  Melanie Pellegrino, Carmen Pagan-Colon and Tonianne Donde all registered multiple hits in Baruch's game two victory.  

BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 18) against the visitng Brooklyn Bulldogs from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York and LIVE STATS are available by logging onto www.sidearmstats.com/oldwest/softball.
