OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team swept the Brooklyn Bulldogs, 3-1 and 6-2, in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at home from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The wins improve Old Westbury to 5-3 on the season while Brooklyn dropped to 4-4.
In the opener, Allison Donovan stroked a two out single in the sixth to start Brooklyn's rally. Two batters later, Norah Marley broke the scoring ice with a single that scored Donovan for the games initial run. Old Westbury responded in the bottom of the sixth when
Samantha Siegler doubled home
Jennifer Jean to knot the game at one-all. Two batters later,
Alyssa Clancy doubled to left center, scoring pinch runner
Jessica Colucci for the eventual game-winning run.
Lauren Isaac followed with a double down the left field line to score Clancy for the third and final run.
Alyssa Clancy (2-3, R, RBI), Samantha Sielger (2-3, RBI) and
Lauren Isaac (2-2, RBI) registered Old Westbury's lone doubles and collected multiple hits to lead the Panthers to victory. Allison Donovan (2-3, R) and Meagan Cranton (2-4) led Brooklyn with a pair of hits, while Cranston and Maria Mantagas both registered Brooklyn's doubles.
Deborah Ciccarelli (3-1) grabbed Old Westbury's win, going the distance, striking out five batters while allowing one run on seven hits and two walks. Marie Oneto (2-2) took the loss for Brooklyn, surrendering three runs off eight hits.
Old Westbury held the advantage in hits (8-7) and extra base hits (3-2) while Brooklyn stole three bases. Brooklyn stranded eight runners compared to Old Westbury's six.
In the finale, Old Westbury took a second inning lead as an error by second baseman Norah Marley allowed
Alyssa Clancy to score. Old Westbury took a 4-0 lead after tacking on three more runs in the third.
Nicole Petrucci scored
Jessica Colucci off a single to right field. Two batters later
Samantha Siegler singled home Petrucci followed by
Jennifer Jean scoring off a wild pitch. Allison Donovan put Brooklyn on the board in the sixth with a run scoring single. Maria Mantagas followed with an RBI single that scored Donovan to make it a 4-2 game. Old Westbury tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.
Jessica Spero and Colucci both scored in the sixth off Brooklyn errors.
Jessica Colucci produced the lone extra base hit in the game to go along with two runs scored to lead Old Westbury. Colucci and
Jessica Spero both stole bases while Brooklyn went 0-for-1 on the base path.
Alyssa Clancy improved to 2-2 with a complete game outing, striking out eight, allowing two unearned runs off three hits and one free pass. Tara Diesel (1-2) was tagged with the loss for Brooklyn, serving up four runs (three earned) off four hits and three walks in just 2.1 innings of work.
Old Westbury grabbed a 7-3 advantage in hits, including a 1-0 edge in extra base hits. Old Westbury left six runners on base while Brooklyn stranded five. Both team committed four errors.
ITHACA BOMBERS UP NEXT FOR CLANCY AND THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 21) on the road against the Ithaca Bombers from Kostrinsky Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Ithaca, New York.
