PANTHER BASEBALL STRIKES FOR 32-5 VICTORY TO DISCHARGE LEHMAN LIGHTNING

BRONX, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team used their offense to mash past the Lehman Lightning, 32-5, in non-conference road action Wednesday evening.  Old Westbury wins their third straight, improving to 20-9 on the season while Lehman fell to 9-11.

Brian Walsh opened the scoring gates early for Old Westbury with a two-run double in the first to go up 2-0.  Old Westbury posted 17 runs on 12 hits, including six doubles in the third to grab a 19-0 advantage.  John Angelino lifted a three-run homer in the third inning to score Brian Reutter and Anthony Orsano for the eventual game-winning runs.

In total, Old Westbury registered 11 players with multiple hits, led by Jacob Coners (4-5), as he collected a career-best four hits and four RBI's to go along with one run scored.  Steve Mare extended his hit streak to 12 games with a double to lead-off the second inning.  Mare (3-4, 4 RBI, 2 R) and Benjamin Farias (3-7, 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB) tallied three hits apiece while Brian Reutter (2-3, 4 R, RBI, SB), Anthony Orsano (2-2, 4 RBI, 3 R, SB), John Angelino (2-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), Michael Weingartner (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 R), Brian Walsh (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB), Christopher DeGennaro (2-8, 3 RBI, 3 R, SB), Alex Abanavas (2-2, 2 RBI, R) and Tyler Hammett (2-4, 3 R) stroked multiple hits.  Christopher Tavarez paced Lehman with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including two RBI's while Frank Almonte (1-4) scored two runs.  

Old Westbury starter Tyler Levine (1-0) scattered two hits in three innings to record his first victory of the season.  Old Westbury used six different relievers, working one inning each, totaling nine strikeouts and a pair of walks.  Michael Liang (1-3) took the Lehman loss, serving up 11 runs off nine hits and four walks over 2.1 innings.  Lehman used a total of three pitchers, combining for 12 walks and two strikeouts. 

ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the diamond for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 14) at home against the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles at 12 p.m. from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, New York.
