www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team swept a pair of non-conference games away from the visiting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears on Tuesday afternoon. Old Westbury edged St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in the opener, 2-1, followed by a 1-0 win in the finale. Old Westbury improves to 17-13 on the season while sending the Bears to 15-8.
Jessica Spero fired the opening shot by driving in
Jessica Colucci off a single in the second inning for Old Westbury's early 1-0 lead. In the fifth,
Alyssa Clancy stroked a run scoring single to plate
Marissa Brightman for a 2-0 advantage. Millicia Malvasio put St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on the board with an infield grounder that scored Jackie Perillo in the sixth to cut the deficit in half. Old Westbury starter
Deborah Ciccarelli dealt out a free pass to Caitlyn Kakavas with one out in the seventh, prompting
Alyssa Clancy to record the final two outs in relief to record her third save of the season.
Alyssa Clancy paced the Panther offense with a 2-for-3 game at the plate, while
Marissa Brightman collected Old Westbury's lone extra base hit, doubling in the fifth inning. Jackie Perillo clubbed a triple and scored in the sixth to lead the Bears.
Deborah Ciccarelli (6-6) earned Old Westbury's victory, striking out six St. Joseph's-Brooklyn batters over 6.1 innings, giving up one run off three hits and one walk. Alyson Chiaramonte (10-4) fanned five batters and suffered the setback for St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, serving up two runs off six hits and two walks.
In the finale,
Jennifer Jean's two-out double in the second inning proved to be the difference, scoring
Alyssa Clancy for the game-winning run.
Alyssa Clancy had a perfect game going by retiring the first 20 batters until she hit Danielle Molari with the pitch. Alyson Chiaramonte followed with a single to break up Clancy's no-hit bid before Caitlyn Kakavas popped out to end the game.
Alyssa Clancy (11-7) reached double-digit strikeouts for the fifth time this season, fanning 11 batters in her one-hit complete game shutout, marking her fifth clean sheet of the season. Alyson Chiaramonte (10-5) was tagged with the loss, striking out eight while serving one run off two hits.
JOHN JAY BLOODHOUNDS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to action for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday (Apr. 18) from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex against the visiting John Jay Bloodhounds. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
