www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team recorded their fourth straight 20-win season with Friday's 9-7 and 5-2 non-conference road victories against the Hunter Hawks from Randall's Island Field 12. Old Westbury improves to 21-13 on the season while Hunter dropped to 13-23
Samantha Siegler cracked off a two-run homer in the opener that scored
Samantha Howley in the first for an early 2-0 Panther lead.
Alex Heaney scored
Jennifer Jean in the second off an infield grounder to put Old Westbury up 3-0. Hunter responded with solo runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings including Sophia Ponce's run scoring double to knot the game at 3-all in the fifth.
Jennifer Jean put Old Westbury ahead for good in the sixth with a two-run homer and four batters later
Nicole Petrucci stroked a run scoring single to make it 6-3. Up 6-5 heading into the seventh, Old Westbury tacked on three more insurance runs to take a 9-5 lead.
Jessica Spero drove in Siegler and
Alyssa Clancy off a single followed by
Corrine Protasiewicz's sacrifice fly that scored
Jessica Colucci to close out Old Westbury's scoring. Hunter scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-7 loss to Old Westbury.
Samantha Siegler (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R),
Jessica Colucci (2-3, 2 R) and
Lauren Isaac (2-2) paced Old Westbury with multiple hits and
Jennifer Jean (1-3, HR) followed with two RBI's and two runs scored. Josephine Estevez banged out a game-high four hits to go with two runs scored and one RBI to lead Hunter. Sophia Ponce (3-4, RBI, 2 R) and Meghan O'Shea (3-4, 2 RBI) followed with a three hits apiece.
Deborah Ciccarelli (8-6) won her third straight decision, striking out five in her ninth complete game outing of the season, serving up seven runs (six earned) off 12 hits and zero walks. Angel Iacovetti (8-11) was tapped for nine runs (eight earned) off 10 hits and four walks to take the loss for Hunters.
In the finale,
Jessica Colucci singled home
Jessica Spero to break the scoring ice, giving Old Westbury a 1-0 edge in the first inning.
Nicole Mannino's run scoring single in the second doubled Old Westbury's advantage, making it a 2-0 game. Julie Lipovac singled in Meghan O'Shea to cut Hunter's deficit in half in the second inning.
Samantha Siegler delivered the eventual game-winning run by smacking a fifth inning solo home run for a 3-2 Panther lead.
Jennifer Jean singled in the sixth to score Colucci and
Corrine Protasiewicz lifted a sacrifice fly out to center field, scoring
Marissa Brightman to close out Old Westbury's scoring.
Jessica Colucci (2-3, RBI, R) and
Marissa Brightman (2-2, R) paced Old Westbury's offense with multiple hits while Meghan O'Shea's three hits led Hunter.
Alyssa Clancy (13-7) fanned six Hunter batters and gave up one run off six hits and one walk to earn Old Westbury's win in six innings. Lauren Stensland (1-6) was dealt Hunter's loss, allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings of work.
