NEWBURGH, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team fell 5-3 in the opener and recovered with an 8-2 topping over the Mount Saint Mary Knights Saturday afternoon to grab the four-seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. 

Old Westbury (22-14, 8-6 Skyline) now travels to take on top-seeded NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays (27-9, 13-1 Skyline) Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Brooklyn, New York.  Mount Saint Mary (14-18, 8-6 Skyline) misses out of the Skyline Conference Tourney after Old Westbury bounced them out of contention.  No. 2 Sage (24-13, 9-5 Skyline) will host No. 4 Farmingdale State (22-12, 9-5 Skyline) on Wednesday while NYU-Poly plays host for the remaining games in the double elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

In the opener, Jennifer Jean provided a solo home run in the second inning to put Old Westbury on top, 1-0.  Mount Saint Mary took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and Old Westbury answered with one in the fifth and sixth off run scoring singles by Nicole Petrucci and Lauren Isaac to knot the game at 3-all.  Victoria DeMarco delivered a walk off two-run homer in the seventh that lifted Mount Saint Mary past Old Westbury, 5-3.

Jennifer Jean (2-3, HR) and Nicole Petrucci (2-4, RBI) paced the Panther offense with a pair of hits while Victoria DeMarco (1-3, HR, 2 RBI) scored two runs and Ashley Peel (2-3, R) banged out a pair of hits to lead Mount Saint Mary. 
Alyssa Clancy struck out seven over 6.1 innings and was dealt the loss, giving up five runs off seven hits.  Caitlin Maynes picked up the victory by striking out seven and giving up three runs off eight hits.

Old Westbury flexed their muscles early on in the finale to take a 1-0 advantage as Alyssa Clancy stroked a run scoring single in the first inning.  Corrine Protasiewicz doubled to lead off the second, moved over to third off a sacrifice bunt and advanced home on a throwing error by catcher Stephanie Karcher.  Marissa Brightman stroked a two-run single to score Jessica Spero and Nicole Petrucci for the eventual game-winning runs. Two batters later, Clancy laced a run scoring single to make it a 5-0 game.  Old Westbury added three more runs in the third while Mount Saint Mary scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth to close out an 8-2 Panther victory. 

Marissa Brightman led Old Westbury with three hits, three RBI's and two runs scored while Nicole Petrucci (2-5, 2 R, RBI), Samantha Siegler (2-5, RBI), Alyssa Clancy (2-4, 2 RBI) followed with multiple hits.  Corrine Protasiewicz and Jessica Spero both scored two runs apiece.  Ashley Peel (1-4) and Caitlin Maynes (1-2) scored both Mount Saint Mary runs. 

Alyssa Clancy bounced back in the finale to earn the win, striking out seven while allowing two runs off six hits.  Mount Saint Mary starter Amanda Barrese lasted just three innings and was saddled with the loss after serving up eight runs (six earned) off nine hits and two walks. 

SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to action for the opening round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday (Apr. 25) on the road against the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays in Brooklyn, New York.  Game time has not yet been announced.
