OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team tallied a pair of non-conference home wins Tuesday afternoon by defeating the visiting Lehman Lightning from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury edged Lehman 4-3 in the opener and closed with an 8-0 run rule shutout in six innings.  Old Westbury improves to 8-10 on the season while sending the Lightning down to 5-13.

Old Westbury broke the scoring ice early on in the opener with a first inning single by Samantha Siegler that scored Jennifer Jean for a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth, Corrine Protasiewicz slapped an infield grounder to third, scoring Marissa Brightman to double the advantage, making it a 2-0 game.  Lehman fought back to knot the game at 2-all in the sixth on back-to-back run scoring singles by Janet Ortiz and Natalie Martinez.  Lehman then took a 3-2 lead in the seventh as Toni Angel Puya beat out a throw home on an infield grounder.  Old Westbury responded in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs to take the opener, 4-3.  Jennifer Jean reached second on a fielding error by right fielder Mayra Guablocho to lead off the inning and scored off Brightman's game tying double. Siegler then delivered a walk-off double to score Brightman for the game-winning run.

Samantha Siegler led the Panther offense with her third straight multi-hit game, collecting three hits, including two doubles to go along with two RBI.  Jessica Colucci banged out her first career multi-hit game, hitting 2-for-3 while Jennifer Jean (1-4, 2 R) and Marissa Brightman (1-2, RBI, BB, 2 R) both scored two runs and stole two bags.  Janet Ortiz paced Lehman with a 2-for-3 game at the plate.

Deborah Ciccarelli (5-4) earned the victory for Old Westbury, fanning 10 batters without dealing out a single walk, while allowing three runs (two earned) off five hits to notch her sixth complete game of the season.  Her 10 strikeouts tied a career-high that she accomplished twice, the last time coming on April 9, 2009 against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.  Natalie Martinez took the loss for Lehman, giving up four runs (three earned) off 10 hits and two walks.

Old Westbury finished with the advantage in hits (10-5), extra base hits (4-0) and stolen bases (5-1).  Old Westbury stranded eight runners on base while Lehman had three and both teams committed two errors.

In the finale, Jessica Spero lifted the eventual game-winning sacrifice fly out to right field that scored Alyssa Clancy in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Two innings, later, Old Westbury's lead blossomed to six runs as the Panthers tallied five runs off five hits and three errors.  Old Westbury tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth to make it an 8-0 game, recording a run rule victory.

Samantha Siegler (2-3, 2-2B, R), Alyssa Clancy (2-3, 2 R, RBI) and Jessica Colucci (2-2, R, SB) paced Old Westbury with multi-hit games.  Clancy and Jessica Spero (1-2, 3B, RBI, 2 R) both scored two runs.  Sheila San Andreas (1-3) and Vania Cadet (1-2) collected both of Lehman's hits on the game.

Alyssa Clancy (3-6) tossed her 16th career-shutout after scattering just two hits (zero walks) while striking out eight to earn the victory for Old Westbury.  Sheila San Andreas (1-6) was tagged with Lehman's loss after surrendering eight runs (four earned) off 10 hits in 5.2 innings.

Old Westbury held the advantage in hits (10-2), extra base hits (5-0) and stolen bases (1-0) while leaving four runners on base compared to Lehman's three.  Lehman committed four errors on the game.
