OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team improved to a program-best 29-11 on the season with Tuesday's 14-2 non-conference victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners on Senior Day and Prostate Cancer Awareness Game from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The loss moved the Marines to 20-13 on the season.

Old Westbury opened the scoring books in the second inning with three runs on three hits and two errors.  Michael Weingartner's double scored Christopher DeGennaro for the games initial run.  Three batters later, Paul Valerio doubled home Blake Barbeito followed by Steve Mare reaching on an error by third baseman Nicholas Kopacka, which allowed Valerio to score.  Old Westbury tacked on two more runs in the third on back-to-back run scoring singles by DeGennaro and Weingartner to make it a 5-0 game.  Old Westbury exploded for nine runs in the seventh on nine hits and one error off reliever Keil Silva to go ahead 14-0.  Andrew Martin put the Mariners on the board in the eight with a single that scored Jacob Wood while catcher Christopher DeGennaro's error allowed John Hubach to score on the play.

Tim Walsh (6-3) scattered five hits over seven shutout innings with four strikeouts to pick up Old Westbury's victory.  David Stern (3 H, 2 R, ER, K) and J.C. Costa (K, BB) each tossed one inning of relief.  U.S.M.M.A. used eight pitchers for single innings of work as reliever Chris Hinds (0-2) surrendered three runs (two earned) off three hits and one walk in the second to take the loss.

Old Westbury seniors combined to hit 13-for-19 at the plate with seven RBI's and seven runs scored led by Michael Weingartner (4-5, 3 RBI, R, 2B) and Christopher DeGennaro (4-5, 3 R, RBI, 2B), who banged out a career-high four hits apiece.  Weingartner's three RBI's were a personal best.  Paul Valerio (3-5, 2 R, RBI, 2B) and Anthony Orsano (3-5, RBI, R) followed with three hits apiece while Blake Barbeito (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB), Brian Walsh (2-4, RBI, 2 R, 2B, BB) and John Angelino (2-4, R) added multi-hit games.  Orsano and Valerio extended their hit streaks to 14 and 11 games, respectively.  John Hubach paced the Mariners with a 3-for-4 game at the plate and scored one run.   

Old Westbury held the advantage in hits (22-8), extra base hits (4-0) and stole bases (2-0) while striking out six with just one walk on the mound, compared to U.S.M.M.A., who fanned six Panther batters and walked three.
