OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  Third-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team advanced past the sixth-seed Brooklyn Bulldogs, 5-0, in the opening round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament on Thursday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury improves to a program best 25-17 record and will now take on second-seeded Sage Gators (26-15) on Saturday in the double elimination semifinal round at 12 p.m., hosted by Richard Stockton College in Galloway, New Jersey.  Brooklyn concludes their season at 19-20.

Brooklyn threatened early on with back-to-back leadoff singles to open the game.  Two batters later, Allison Donovan reached on a fielder's choice, moving Kim Konklewski over to third before Alyssa Clancy struck out Norah Marley to escape out of the jam. Old Westbury's offense was nowhere to be found in the first three frames, tallying Marissa Brightman's single as their lone hit.

In the fourth, Old Westbury scored two runs on three hits to go up, 2-0.  Back-to-back singles by Nicole Petrucci and Marissa Brightman kick started the Panther offense and two batters later, Alyssa Clancy slapped an infield grounder to second that scored Petrucci for the go ahead run.  Pinch hitter Lauren Isaac then delivered a single to right center that doubled Old Westbury's advantage, scoring Brightman for a 2-0 lead.

Old Westbury tacked on three more runs off four hits in the sixth inning to secure the victory.  Jennifer Jean delivered a two-run double followed by a run scoring single by Corrine Protasiewicz to cap the scoring.

Alyssa Clancy (17-10) posted her single-season best ninth shutout of the year after tallying nine strikeouts while scattering five hits and two walks over seven innings.  Marie Oneto (16-12) took Brooklyn's loss after serving up five runs off eight hits.

Marissa Brightman (2-3, R) and pinch hitter Lauren Isaac (2-2, RBI, R) paced Old Westbury with multiple hits while Jennifer Jean (1-3, 2-R 2B, R) added a two-run double in the victory.  Kim Konklewski (2-4) and Megan Crantston (2-3) paced Brooklyn with multiple hits while Tara Diesel (0-3) was sat down twice on strikes.

NO. 2 SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR NO. 3 PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for the double elimination semifinal round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament on Saturday against No. 2 Sage Gators.  First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. from the campus of Richard Stockton College in Galloway, New Jersey.
