PANTHER SOFTBALL RUNS THROUGH SAGE IN ECAC SEMIS, 7-1

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  Third-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team improved to a program best 26-17 on the season after downing second-seed Sage Gators 7-1, Saturday afternoon in the double elimination round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament in Galloway, New Jersey.  Old Westbury will now take on No. 5 St. Joseph's-L.I. today at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship round on Sunday at 2 p.m.
  
Sage opened the scoring in the fourth with an error by first baseman Jessica Spero that advanced Tiffany Bezio home for the games initial run. 

Old Westbury replied in the fifth with three runs off four hits to claim a 3-1 lead.  Alyssa Clancy laced a run scoring single to score Marissa BrightmanJennifer Jean followed with a double to score Samantha Siegler for the go ahead run and  Clancy scored off Lauren Isaac's single. 

Old Westbury tacked on four more runs off three hits in the sixth for a 7-1 cushion.  After Nicole Pertucci and Brightman drew lead off walks, Siegler clubbed a three-run homer to left center.  Two batters later, Jean stroked a double and scored as Isaac singled her home to cap the scoring.

Marissa Brightman (3-4, 2 R) and Lauren Isaac (3-4, 2 RBI) paced the Panther offense with three hit attacks.  Samantha Siegler (2-3, 3-R HR, 2 R) and Jennifer Jean (2-3, RBI, R, 2 2B) followed with multi hit games.  Kelsey Newberg's 3-for-4 game at the plate led Sage offensively.   

Alyssa Clancy (18-10) grabbed Old Westbury's win after allowing one unearned run on eight hits while striking
out seven.  Kelsey Newberg was saddled with the loss for Sage, giving up three runs off eight hits and four walks in four innings of work. 

NO. 5 ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR NO. 3 PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for the double elimination semifinal round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament on Saturday against No. 5 St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles.  First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the campus of Richard Stockton College in Galloway, New Jersey.
