www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – No. 3 SUNY College at Old Westbury concluded their season with a 14-2 loss to the No. 2 Sage Gators in the elimination game of the ECAC Metro Region Softball Championship Tournament semifinal round Sunday afternoon in Galloway, New Jersey. Old Westbury posted a program best 26-19 record during the 2012 campaign, including making their fifth straight appearance in the ECAC Metro Region Championship Tournament. Sage (28-16) moves onto the championship game and will take on No. 5 St. Joseph's-L.I. (22-18) at 2 p.m.
The Panthers struck first with one run in the opening inning and continued to hold off the Gators until the fourth inning.
Samantha Sigler gave Old Westbury an early 1-0 advantage by lacing a single to score
Nicole Petrucci. Tricia Gaulin responded for Sage with a run scoring single that drove in Karlie Williams to knot the game at 1-all in the fourth.
The top of the fifth proved to be the deciding factor in the game as Sage put up five runs on six hits to take a 6-1 lead, highlighted by Gaulin's three-run homer. Old Westbury answered in the bottom of the fifth with another run scoring single off the bat of Siegler that scored
Marissa Brightman. Sage went onto score eight more runs (five earned) in the sixth off reliever
Deborah Ciccarelli to grab the run rule victory.
Samantha Siegler paced Old Westbury in her final game as a Panther, collecting a pair of run-scoring singles in a 2-for-3 game at the plate.
Alyssa Clancy added two hits in three at bats, including a leadoff double in the fourth inning. Sage registered six Gators with multiple hits, led by Samantha Woitkoski's 4-for-4 game at the plate with three RBI's and two runs scored. Tricia Gaulin (3-4, 3-R HR, 5 RBI) followed with three hits and five RBI's.
Alyssa Clancy (18-12) suffered Old Westbury's loss, dealing out six runs on 12 hits while striking out five over five innings of work in the circle.
Deborah Ciccarelli pitched her final game as a Panther, striking out one in the sixth inning while giving up eight runs (five earned) off six hits and one walk. Rachel Smith (12-8) was victorious for Sage after striking out two and surrendering two runs off five hits and one walk in six innings.
