HOBOKEN, NJ (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team fell 3-0 in game one and replied with a 8-0 run-rule victory Wednesday evening on the road against the Stevens Ducks from the Weehawken Waterfront. Old Westbury's program best 24th win gives the Panthers a 24-17 mark and are hopeful for Monday's announcement that will earn them their fifth straight ECAC Championship Tournament berth. Stevens heads into the Empire 8 Championship Tournament with a record of 17-22.
GAME ONE
Stevens jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with Stephanie Senkevich's two-run single and Kendel Aurand's run scoring single in the first inning off starter
Deborah Ciccarelli. Old Westbury was unable to capitalize in the second as
Nicole Petrucci stranded three with a strikeout. In the seventh, Old Westbury threatened with
Mary Naula on third, but Kayla Berardi got
Jessica Spero and Petrucci down on strikes to preserve the victory.
Old Westbury's
Deborah Ciccarelli fell to 8-7 on the season after giving up three runs off eight hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings. Kayla Berardi (7-13) fanned 10 Panther batters as she tossed a 2-hit shutout.
Lauren Isaac (1-1, 2 BB) and
Samantha Siegler (1-2) singled for Old Westbury's lone hits of the game. Danielle DeGeo (2-3, R, BB) and Kendel Aurand (2-3, RBI) paced Stevens with multi-hit games and Stephanie Senkevich (1-3, 2-R HR) blasted a two-run home run.
GAME TWO
Old Westbury took a 1-0 advantage in the third as
Marissa Brightman poked a single through the left side to score
Corrine Protasiewicz.
Lauren Isaac doubled in two more runs in the fourth to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Isaac struck again in the fifth to put OW ahead by four runs with a single to score Siegler. Brightman scored
Samantha Howley in the sixth on a double followed by
Samantha Siegler's three-run home run to put Old Westbury on top, 8-0.
Alyssa Clancy (16-10) captured Old Westbury's win by posting her eighth shutout of the season, scattering four hits and striking out eight without issuing any free passes. Brianna Sandone (9-8) surrendered eight runs (seven earned) off 12 hits and two walks to take the loss for Stevens.
Marissa Brightman (3-4, 2 RBI, R) tied a career-high with three-hits while
Alyssa Clancy (2-4, R),
Lauren Isaac (2-4, 3 RBI) and
Corrine Protasiewicz (2-3, R) produced multi-hit games to lead Old Westbury.
Samantha Siegler (1-3, 3 RBI, 2 R) jacked her fifth home run of the season to take over for the team lead.
Stevens totaled four singles while Brianna Sandone struck out twice.
