COLONIE, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team cruised to a 4-2Skyline Conference road victory over the Sage Gators on Saturday afternoon from Colonie High School. With the win, Old Westbury 4-7) improves to 1-1 in conference play while sending Sage (2-6) to 2-6.
Stephanie Maybie led the Panthers with two tallies in the winning effort while
JoAnna Kettell and
Jasmine Kerby also added goals. Old Westbury netminder
Caitlin Thomas recorded five saves to earn her second win of the 2012 campaign.
Kettell scored on a ball placed by
Anna Noens in the game's 57th minute for a 1-0 advantage, her sixth goal of the season. Moments later, Maybie tallied her eighth goal of the season to double Old Westbury's advantage in the 60th minute.
Jasmine Kerby quickly stretched the Panthers' lead to three with her second goal of the season just 2:44 later. The Gators cut their deficit to one goal with scores in the 66th and 76th minutes but it was too late as the three goal hole was too deep to overcome. Maybie capped the scoring at the 89:23 mark with her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Old Westbury finished the game with a 14-10 advantage in shots, including 10-7 on target and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Teagan Waddingham took the loss in net for the Gators with six saves on the day.
FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference road battle on Wednesday (Oct. 3) afternoon, taking on the Farmingdale State Rams in Farmingdale, New York. Kick-off is lated for 4 p.m. from Rams Field.
