www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team won their fifth straight with a 75-53 Skyline Conference road victory over the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon from the Danzi Center. Old Westbury (9-6) improves to 4-2 in conference action while St. Joseph's-L.I. (9-8) fell to 3-3.
DeAndra Scott netted seven of Old Westbury's first 16 points as the Panthers jumped out to a 16-7 lead on St. Joseph's-L.I. just 7:59 into the game. The Golden Eagles answered back with a 14-4 run from 10:23 to 3:57 to grab a brief 21-20 advantage.
Clarissa Gallagher drained a three pointer to put Old Westbury up for good with 3:57 remaining as the Panthers closed out the half with a 20-4 run to take a commanding 40-25 lead into the half.
Old Westbury kept a double digit lead throughout the second half and went up by as many as 22 points off
Crystal Barnes' layup to close out the scoring. St. Joseph's-L.I. pulled within 12 points with 14:05 remaining, when Colleen Fitzsimons dropped in a layup to cut into Old Westbury's 46-34 lead.
DeAndra Scott's 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field led all scorers. Scott added seven rebounds while
Antoinette Jolly grabbed 13 boards, followed by
Raven Price's nine. Jolly also added seven assists and four steals, all of which were game highs.
Clarissa Gallagher scored 12 points and
Raven Pentz chipped in with 11 and four assists.
Laura Cohen led St. Joseph's-L.I. with 17 points and three steals while Amanda Bender scored 14 and Danielle Hamlin tallied 10. Ashley Larrea pulled down nine rebounds.
Old Westbury finished the game shooting 41.7 percent from the field (30-72), 28.6 percent from three point territory (4-14) and 47.8 percent from the free throw line (11-23). St. Joseph's-L.I. hit 31.1 percent from the floor (19-61), 16.7 percent from beyond the arc (4-24) and 45.8 percent from the charity stripe (11-24). Old Westbury dominated the boards, holding a 58-39 rebounding advantage, scoring 21 second chance points off 19 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury committed a season best 16 turnovers, while scoring just eight points off 15 St. Joseph's-L.I. miscues. Old Westbury's 16 game streak of recording at least one block ended today and the last time the Panthers finished a game without a block was on February 15, 2012 at St. Joseph's-L.I.
