Old Westbury’s 66-58 setback ended a seven game win streak

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team fell 66-58 to visiting Purchase Panthers in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon from the Clark Athletic Center.  The loss put a stop to Old Westbury's (11-7) seven game win streak, moving the home Panthers to 6-3 in conference action while Purchase (10-9) improved to 5-4.   

Both teams exchanged leads four times in the opening 14:43 and Clarissa Gallagher's triple put Old Westbury up 19-8 with 14:30 remaining.  Raven Pentz gave Old Westbury their largest lead of the game off a jumper with 12:03 left for a 16-10 advantage.  Purchase answered with a 13-2 run from 7:52 to 2:45 to go up 31-23.  Old Westbury took a 34-31 lead into the break after answering with an 11-0 run to close out the half.

Purchase chipped away at the slim half time deficit in the in the opening minutes of the second half to take a 35-34 lead on an Elizabeth Osowiecki layup.  Jessica Biggs' layup gave Purchase a 39-36 lead while Old Westbury's DeAndra Scott tallied the next four points to give her team a 40-39 lead with 13:27 remaining.  Raven Price hit one-of-two from the line for a 41-39 Old Westbury lead and Purchase rallied to go ahead 47-41 with an 8-0 run from 12:18 to 10:18 to grab the lead for good.  Following a Scott jumper with 9:08 showing on the clock, Jess Lindsay's jumper sparked an 8-0 run as Purchase took a 56-46 lead with7:03 remaining.  Old Westbury answered with a 9-0 run to pull within one point, 56-55.  In the end, Purchase outscored Old Westbury 10-3 in the final 2:36 to secure the victory. 

DeAndra Scott's third straight double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds paced Old Westbury.  Clarissa Gallagher followed with 10 points and struggled shooting the ball, hitting just 3-of-13 from the floor.  Antoinette Jolly chipped in with 10 rebounds, nine points (4-10 FG) and five steals.  Jolly and Raven Pentz accounted for 14 of Old Westbury's 28 turnovers, which were converted into 24 Purchase points. 

Jess Lindsay (6-17 FG) and Talia Beaulieu (6-19 FG) both poured in 15 points to lead Purchase to victory.  Beaulieu ripped down 10 rebounds and Lineker St. Hilaire added nine.  Alexis Billups registered 10 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists.

Old Westbury hit 33.8 percent from the field (23-68), 17.6 percent from three point territory (3-17) and 56.3 percent from the charity stripe (9-16).  Purchase shot 37.5 percent from the floor (27-72), 16.7 percent from beyond the arc (1-6) and 52.4 percent from the line (11-21).  Purchase won the boards battle, 44-38, and scored just 10 second chance points off 15 offensive rebounds. 

MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood looking to start a new win streak when the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphiins come to campus for a Skyline Conference battle on Tuesday (January 29).  Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
