The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team were defeated 1-0 by conference rival Farmingdale State Rams on Saturday afternoon at Panther Park.
The only goal of the game came in the 11th minute, when Rams' forward Ashlee Thompson converted on a penalty kick.Â
Caitlin Thomas had a career-high 15 saves in the match, with the Rams applying heavy pressure all game long. One of those saves came off a second penalty kick in the 71st minute. Thomas' ability to make the save kept the Panthers in the game, but Old Westbury was never able to break-through.
Old Westbury was heavily outshot (39-5, 16-2 on target), but their best chance came off a free kick in the dying seconds of the game. The Panthers peppered the net following the delivery, but Farmingdale State did well to hold the line and turn Old Westbury away.Â
Farmingdale State's overall record improves to 11-7 (7-0 in conference play), while the Panthers fall to 8-7 (3-3 in conference).
NYU-POLY FIGHTING JAYS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers will honor their four seniors on Tuesday (Oct. 22) prior to a conference matchup with the NYU-Poly Fighting Jays. The pregame festivities begin at 2:45 p.m. and kick-off is set for 3 p.m. from Panther Park.
