@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer Can Dolphins, 3-1

Maybie’s two-goal night led Old Westbury to knock off undefeated Staten Island



STATEN ISLAND, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team used a 3-1 non-conference victory to hand the Staten Island Dolphins its first loss of the season Friday evening from CSI Soccer Complex.  Old Westbury improves to 9-7 while sending the Dolphins to 14-1-2. 
Staten Island got on the attack in the 10th minute as Melissa Gelardi's corner-kick hit off goalie Caitlin Thomas' hand which set Senda Karagozler up for the finish to give the Dolphins the early lead.  Old Westbury had a couple of opportunities in the first half but had to settle for a 6-5 advnatge in shots as the Dolphins held a 1-0 lead at halftime.  

The Panthers established dominance early in the second half, leading to their first goal just 1:41 into the action.  Stephanie Maybie got free from the Dolphin defense as JoAnna Kettell slotted a perfect pass to assist on Maybie's 11th goal of the season.  Kettell recorded her 25th career assist Maybie's goal.    

Old Westbury pulled ahead in the 52nd minute as Maybie received a quick Michelle Ventimiglia lead pass to make it a 2-1.  Maybie's game-winner was her 14th career. 

Kettell joined the scoring frenzy in the 85th minute, receiving a tipped pass into the box from Maybie and broke free for her 15th goal of the season.

The Panthers would finish the match with a 15-12 shot advantage and a 3-2 edge in corners.  Maybie led all Panthers with seven shots while Kettell followed with five.  Thomas made four saves to record her 22nd career victory in net for the Panthers.  Victoria Donegan allowed all three goals and grabbed five saves in defeat for Staten Island.     

SENIOR DAY VERSUS PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: The Panthers will return to the pitch on Monday (Oct. 28) for Skyline Conference matchup on Senior Day with the Purchase Panthers.  Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. from Panther Park with a 2:45 p.m. ceremony honoring seniors JoAnna Kettell (2010-13), Cristina Kettell (2010-13), Jasmine Kerby (2012-13) and Nicole Hallahan (2013).  

Old Westbury is 2-2 all-time versus the Dolphins, winning their last meeting 2-0 at home on September 18, 2012.
