Old Westbury volunteered to run the Softball portion of Special Olympics Long Island Fall Classic

HICKSVILLE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team assisted with running the softball portion of the Special Olympics Long Island Fall Classic on September 28 from Cantiague Park in Hicksville, New York.

Head coach Rod Stephan organized the event for the third straight year as Softball Event Director as his student-athletes enjoyed positive interactions with Special Olympics New York's dedicated and enthusiastic throng of athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans.

The student-athletes were responsible for helping run the event, set up and break down, keep score during competition, stage athletes and help with the opening and closing ceremonies.

Over 400 athletes from Long Island, New York City, and Hudson Valley participated in the 2013 Fall Classic, which featured competitions in Bocce, Cross Country, Running Golf, Soccer and Softball.  Cantiague Park hosted Golf and the team sports, while the Hicksville Firehouse Station #3 hosted Bocce and the skills sports.
