@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer Cap Off Remarkable Comeback with 3-2 Senior Day Win

JoAnna Kettell scored her 49th and 50th career goals and added an assist; Old Westbury locked up the #4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament

Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team (10-7, 4-3 Skyline) came back from a two-goal deficit in the first half to defeat the Purchase Panthers (5-12, 3-6 Skyline) by the score of 3-2 on Monday afternoon. With the win, Old Westbury earned a trip to the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament as the #4 seed and will host #5 Mount Saint Vincent on November 2 at 12 p.m.

The Skyline Conference match was preceded by a ceremony honoring Old Westbury's four seniors; Nicole Hallahan (2013), Jasmine Kerby (2012-13) and JoAnna and Cristina Kettell (2010-13).
Purchase jumped out to an early lead in the 14th minute, courtesy of an Annette Elson rebound goal, and then doubled its lead in the 43rd minute when Cristina de Jesus banged in a rebound goal of her own. Old Westbury would carry its two-goal disadvantage into half time after failing to truly influence proceedings in the first period.

But maestro JoAnna Kettell got things going early on in the second, when she chipped a ball over Purchase keeper Jess Lindsay—who paid for her adventurous tactics—in the 48th minute.

Old Westbury maintained all momentum following the goal and continued their rampage in the final third, but the second breakthrough didn't come until the 74th minute, when a ball deflected off Nicole Hallahan and found Kettell, who curled the ball around a charging Lindsay yet again. Kettell's 17th tally of the season was also her 50th career goal.

Just two minutes later, Old Westbury capped off its spirited comeback when Kettell provided a searching ball down the right side for Michelle Ventimiglia, who then turned and crossed the ball into the box. The ball found the head of Stephanie Maybie, who got credit for her 13th goal of the season.

Keeper Caitlin Thomas made six saves in a match that saw her side outshoot its opponent 16-12 (7-4 on target).

Other top performers for Old Westbury were Jordan Schildt, who provided great energy and service in the midfield, and Ventimiglia, who recorded her fourth assist of the season.

BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: The Panthers return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 30) for a non-conference matchup with the Brooklyn Bulldogs.  Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. from Panther Park.
