@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball Contain Beavers in Home Opener

DeAndra Scott eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in the win

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team defeated the City College of New York Beavers by the score of 71-48 on Wednesday evening in the Panthers' first home game of the season. With the win, Old Westbury collects its first victory of the season and improves to 1-2 on the year, while the Beavers fall to 0-1.

Never falling behind once in the game, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead, registering 16 of the game's first 20 points and cruised into halftime up by the score of 37-22.

Old Westbury continued its dominance in the second half and led the Beavers by as much as 26 points, thanks mostly in part by the team's dominance on the break. The Panthers' 23 points on the rush dwarfed CCNY's five and was the difference when the final buzzer sounded.

Old Westbury also controlled the game in the paint—besting CCNY's 30 points with 40 of their own—and excelled off the bench (23-11).

DeAndra Scott registered her third double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and adding 13 boards for Old Westbury. The senior also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark early in the second half.

Jasmine Robinson (15 points, six rebounds, five steals, 6-6 FT) also put together a strong showing.

Bria Fisher's 23 points and 13 rebounds paced CCNY.

Despite losing the game, CCNY won the boards battle 54-51, but the Panthers pressured their opponents into 31 turnovers, which resulted in 22 points.

NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Tuesday (November 26) for a non-conference tilt against the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels in New Rochelle, New York.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from The Wellness Center.
