@OW_Panthers Women’s Hoops Push Back, But Fall at Home to Brooklyn

DeAndra Scott registered her sixth double-double of the season

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team was defeated on Wednesday evening at the hands of the Brooklyn Bulldogs by the score of 78-76. The Panthers, who are now 2-2 at home, fall to 2-5 on the season, while Brooklyn improves to 5-3.
Brooklyn took the early lead and never gave it up for the duration of the first half, although Old Westbury was able to keep things close during the first 10 minutes. But halfway through the first frame, the Bulldogs poured it on and used an 8-0 run to bury the Panthers. Brooklyn led by as much as 13 points twice in the half before it ended by the score of 39-26.

In the second half Old Westbury applied much needed pressure and went on a monstrous 20-4 run from 17:17 to 9:19. At that point, the Panthers took their first lead of the game, on top of their opponents by the score of 52-50. But it was Brooklyn who would have the last word, as they reclaimed the lead at 6:59 and fended off the Panthers en route to a 78-76 win.

Brooklyn dominated Old Westbury off the bench by the score of 29-10, which played a huge role in the victory. Brooklyn also registered 22 second-chance points while Old Westbury notched just 10.

Despite the loss, DeAndra Scott picked up her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and adding 10 boards. Raven Pentz also had a big game, draining a career-high four three-pointers before finishing with 16 points; a season-high for the sophomore.

Brooklyn's Nicole Francomano controlled the game and dished out an impressive 10 assists, while Megan Campbell dropped 23 points and claimed 11 rebounds.

COLLEGE OF SAINT ELIZABETH SCREAMING EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Saturday (December 14) for a non-conference tilt against the visiting College of Saint Elizabeth Screaming Eagles in Old Westbury, New York.  Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
