@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball Silenced by Screaming Eagles in Saturday Matinee

Old Westbury surrendered a 21-point lead en route to its third straight loss

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team lost its sixth game of the season Saturday afternoon to the visiting College of Saint Elizabeth Screaming Eagles by the score of 81-72.  The Panthers, who have dropped three consecutive contests, forfeited a 21-point lead in the first half and have fallen to 2-6 on the season, while Saint Elizabeth improved to 6-4.

With the scored tied at nine less than four minutes into the first half, Old Westbury turned it up and put together an overwhelming 40-19 run that lasted for over 15 minutes. Five quick points in the remaining minute of the first half by Saint Elizabeth cut the Panthers' lead to 16 before the break, but Old Westbury was still very much in control.

The Panthers claimed the first two points of the second half, but an 8-0 run by the Screaming Eagles from 19:15 to 15:57 proved their opponents would not go down easy. Old Westbury would regain its 18-point lead shortly after, but a 26-7 run by Saint Elizabeth between 14:44 and 6:10 vaulted the visitors into the lead for just the second time in the game.

Old Westbury would claim the lead on the next basket with 6:10 remaining in the second half, but a 13-4 run by Saint Elizabeth to finish out the half would ensure that it was the last lead the Panthers would have.

Although a tightly contested match in terms of rebounds (51-50, Old Westbury), the Panthers dominated in the paint, outscoring their opponents 40-20. But Saint Elizabeth's 11 three-pointers compared to Old Westbury's six appeared to be the difference.  Old Westbury committed a season-high 29 turnovers

DeAndra Scott picked up her 30th career double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds) despite the loss, while Raven Pentz tied a career-high in points with 18 (5-8 from three) and also claimed a career-best five three-pointers and nine rebounds. Jasmine Robinson also added 16 points and a career-high six steals.  Raven Price chipped in with 11 poitns and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks (tied career-high) to register her third double-double of the season.

Saint Elizabeth's Cheyenne Grant dropped a game-high 30 points and shot 7-14 from beyond the arc.

MANHATTANVILLE VALIANTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Saturday (December 21) for a non-conference tilt against the visiting Manhattanville College Valiants in Old Westbury, New York.  Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
