PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to the Manhattanville Valiants on Wednesday afternoon from the St. Joseph's College-L.I. Outdoor Athletic Complex.  The Panthers fall to 0-4 on the young season while the Valiants improved to 1-4.

Melissa Goncalves broke the scoring ice 24 seconds into play to put Manhattanville up early.  Goncalves scored three of her four goals in the opening 4:47 and netted her final goal with 12:56 left in the first-half.  Brooke Marcimo also added four goals on the day, including three in the opening half as Manhattanville held a 13-0 lead at intermission. 

Old Westbury's defense started to click late in the second-half and held Manhattanville scoreless over the final 10 minutes.  Courtney Gallagher netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season with 4:25 remaining to stop a 17-0 Manhattanville run.  Gallagher extended her goal scoring streak to four games. 

Sara Braverman stopped eight shots for the Panthers while Manhattanville goalies Kirsten Shaughnessy and Caitlin Sosa each recoded one save. 

Michelle Rodriguez and Jordan Schilt led Old Westbury with two caused turnovers while Rodriguez scooped up a team-high three groundballs.  Old Westbury's draw controls were won by Schidlt, Gallagher, Abigail Williams and Gabriella DiPierno. 

Old Westbury trailed the shot count, 35-6, as well as the ground ball battle, 19-9, while winning 4-of-20 draw controls. 

MONTCLAIR STATE RED HAWKS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Saturday (March 16) for a clash with the defending Skyline Conference Championships, the Montclair State Red Hawks from Panther Park.  Start time is set for 12 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
