OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at home to the Oneonta State Red Dragons on Thursday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers let game one slip away with a 4-2 game one setback followed by a 6-3 loss in extra frames as Oneonta State scored three in the ninth inning.  Old Westbury now stands at 7-11 on the season while Oneonta State improves to 5-11.

Game One: Oneonta State 4, Old Westbury 2
Panthers' starter Frank DiMaria no-hit bid was thwarted in the top of seventh, as Oneonta rallied from behind to defeat Old Westbury, 4-2. DiMaria (1-1) took the hard luck loss, by allowing three runs on three hits and fanned three.  He pitched into the seventh, but was pulled for reliever Alex DiSanto, after the Red Dragons recorded their third straight hits to begin the frame.

Oneonta State crossed the plate four times in the seventh to turn a 2-0 deficit to a 4-2 lead.  Chris Orlando started the Red Dragons comeback with a leadoff single to left, which spoiled DiMaria's no-hit attempt.  The next batter, Chris Massaroni doubled to left center moving Orlando to third.  Orlando scored on a Jake Robinson RBI single and two batters later, Oneonta State tied the game at 2-2 on a Rob Peluso RBI sacrifice fly.  Later in the frame, Robinson stole second base and an Old Westbury miscue put Thomas Hand at first.  Mike Schoonmaker broke the game open by delivering a two-RBI double to give Oneonta State a 4-2 edge.

Old Westbury wasted little time by scoring two runs in the first. Paul Valerio started the home first with a walk and advanced to second on a Steve Mare single.  The Panthers quickly put two runs in scoring position, as Valerio swiped third and Mare took second on a perfectly executed double steal.  The Panthers posted their only two runs on back-to-back outs, as Valerio scored on Brian Walsh's RBI groundout and Mare trotted home on Jonathan Pagan's RBI sacrifice fly.
Oneonta starter Benji Parks pitched a gem to earn his first win of the year. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out four in six innings of work. Jim Hegmann preserved the win, by recording his third save of the season.

Steve Mare (1-3, R) and Brandon Stein (1-2) both singled to account for Old Westbury's lone hits in the game as Oneonta State held a 4-2 edge in hits.

Game Two: Oneonta State 6, Old Westbury 3 (9 Innings)
Old Westbury jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame as a Jared Bronley wild pitch allowed Paul Valerio to score the games first run.
Oneonta State capitalized on a two out rally in the fourth to pull ahead 2-1.  Tim Walsh's wild pitch scored Ivan Plata from third, followed by a run scoring Matt Mastroianni single.

Both teams tacked on single runs in the fifth, with Oneonta State holding a 3-2 advantage at the end of the inning.  Oneonta State's Dean Haussel scored from second after shortstop Eddie Hernandez committed a fielding error.  Old Westbury answered with a Robert Crocitto sacrifice fly out to center field that scored Jeremy Delgado from third.

Old Westbury got even in the sixth when Brian Walsh doubled to spark a two out rally.  Paul Valerio then singled, and a fielding error by center fielder Rob Peluso allowed Walsh to score the game tying run.

In the seventh, Old Westbury had a chance to win it, but Delgado was stranded at third when John Angelino struck out to move the game into extra innings.
In the ninth, Jake Robinson led off the frame with a single, stole second and moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Peluso's double then knocked him in for the game-winning run.  Thomas Hand and Haussel both stroked run scoring singles to put Oneonta State up 6-3.

Old Westbury went down one-two-three in the bottom of the ninth to suffer the non-conference sweep.

Delgado extended his team-leading hit streak to eight games with a 2-for-4 performance.  Paul Valerio (2-4, R) and Brian Walsh (2-4, R) also added multi-hit games for Old Westbury.

Chris Orlando collected a pair of hits to lead Oneonta State while Jake Robinson (1-3) scored two runs.

Arismendy Nunez (1-4) fanned six batters and was saddled with Old Westbury's loss, allowing three runs on five hits In 3.2 innings of relief.   Tim Walsh's 5.1 innings pitched did not factor into the decision after striking out four and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.

Jim Hegmann (1-1) earned the win by scattering two hits in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.
