OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College of Old Westbury softball team hosted St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday afternoon in a Skyline Conference doubleheader from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  In the bottom of the third inning, three consecutive two-out RBI singles by the Panthers ignited them to a 4-2 win in the opener.  In a pitchers' duel, Golden Eagles starter Julia DeCarmine notched her eighth win of the season in a complete game effort, as St. Joseph's-L.I. took the finale, 1-0. Old Westbury sits at 15-13 overall, 5-7 in league play, while St. Joseph's-L.I. is now at 20-16 on the season and 8-4 in conference action.

Game One: Old Westbury 4 St. Joseph's-L.I. 2
Corrine Protasiewicz and Samantha Howley combined for five of the Panthers' nine hits to lead the Panthers to a 4-2 victory.  Protasiewicz batted 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Howley went 2-for-3 including a double.

The hosts broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the third.  The Panthers began the frame with their first two batters reaching base.  A few batters later, Protasiewicz delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Jessica Colucci for a 1-0 Panthers' edge.  The next batter, Jacqui Alvarado smacked an RBI single on a 0-2 count, scoring Howley.  Alvarado was followed by Clancy, who laced a first pitch RBI single to center, bringing home Protasiewicz for the third run of the game.

In the top of the fifth, the Golden Eagles sliced the Panthers' lead to 3-1 on a Gianna Gulli RBI single up the middle. In the bottom half of the frame, Old Westbury regained its three-run cushion, when Protasiewicz scored on a Golden Eagles' error.

Clancy notched her 15th win of the year, as she allowed two earned runs on five hits and fanned two.

Game Two: St. Joseph's-L.I. 1, Old Westbury 0
St. Joseph's-L.I. hurler DeCarmine allowed five hits and struck out five, leading her team to the 1-0 win. Her counterpart Clancy took the hard luck loss, as she yielded one run, none earned, on six hits, and fanned three in seven innings pitched.

Casey Thomas and Lindsay Corriss smacked two hits apiece for St. Joseph's-L.I. Protasiewicz finished 2-for-3 for the Panthers.

The lone run of the contest was scored in the top of the fifth. Corriss hammered a single up the middle and swiftly ran the remaining 180' when the ball was misplayed by Old Westbury centerfielder Jennifer Jean.

The Panthers best threat to potentially tie the game came in the bottom of the sixth. With two-outs, Jessica Spero was hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a Protasiewicz single. DeCarmine got out the jam when she induced Alvarado to ground out, ending the threat.
