Box Score

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team was handed their third loss of the season Wednesday afternoon at the hands of Rutgers-Newark. The 2-1 loss evens up the Panther's record at 3-3.

Old Westbury fell behind early, after a fourth minute, free-kick strike by Rutgers-Newark's target-man, Raphael Araujo found the back of the net. The junior forward added a second goal in the 69th minute, when he converted a spot-kick to double the Scarlet Raider's lead.

In the 72nd minute, Old Westbury forward Kosi Ikwuazom was pulled down in the box and the Panthers were awarded a penalty and an opportunity to get back into the match. Fullback Dan Giorgi stepped up and buried it and set the Panthers up for a comeback.

But, it wasn't in the cards. Despite a late-game push, Old Westbury couldn't come up with an equalizer.

A positive for the Panthers was the performance of keeper Peter Sicardi, who shone in his second start of the season. The sophomore made seven saves, some of which were crucial to keeping the Panthers in the game.

MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, when they host the Maritime Privateers. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m. from Panther Park.
