@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer sails past Maritime with 9-1 conference win

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers women's soccer team defeated the Maritime Privateers 9-1 in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon on Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Day from Panther Park.  With the win, Old Westbury (7-6-1) improves to 1-4 in conference play while sending the Privateers (6-7-1) conference record to 1-4.

Stephanie Maybie got the action started in the 11th minute, scoring on a feed from Jordan Schildt to put the Panthers ahead 1-0.  Just two minutes later, the Privateers struck back as Gayle Woods assisted Gabrielle Fox at 12:17 to even the score at 1-1. Old Westbury would regain the lead shortly after as Maybie assisted on Schildt's eventual game-winning goal at 16:47.  Maybie also assisted on Melissa Outsen's goal at 18:50 for Old Westbury's 3-1 lead.  Schildt would close out the first-half scoring at 25:49, registering an unassisted tally to bring the score to 4-1.

The second half began with Dana Yool assisting Schildt on her first-career hat trick at 45:23. Mayra Bonilla (47:14) and Emily Winberry (49:40) added back-to-back goals for to put Old Westbury up 7-1 before Maybie broke the single-season program scoring record with her 21st goal at 52:08, with the assist going to Schildt. Lucia Mejia would round out the games scoring at 83:06 off a breakaway lead pass from Outsen.

Caitlin Thomas and Melissa Muller each stopped one shot to split Old Westbury's victory in goal for the Panthers.  Kristen Hoar made three saves and allowed eight goals in 55:13 and Paige Frankel saved five shots and gave up one goal in the final 35:47 for the Privateers.

In the end, the Panthers held the advantage in shots (42-3), shots on goal (18-3) and corner kicks (10-3).

 
FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference showdown against the Farmingdale State Rams on Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 3 p.m. from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.
