@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball concludes Hawks Tip-Off Tournament against Eastern

Old Westbury returns to action on November 29 against New Rochelle at Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament



MANHATTAN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team lost 92-67 to the Eastern Eagles in the consolation game of the Hawks Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Hunter College in Manhattan, New York.  For her efforts, Clarissa Gallagher was named to the all-tournament team, registering 28 points (12-25 FG, 4-6 3FG), eight assists, six rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals in two games.

Old Westbury and Eastern battled back and forth in the early going, combining for eight first-half lead changes.  Olivia Ilardi connected on a three pointer at 13:49 to put the Panthers ahead by five points, 16-11.  Eastern answered with a 15-0 run (26-16) from 13:34 to 9:10 to grab the lead for good.  Back-to-back layups by Gallagher and Jasmine Robinson cut the deficit to six points (26-20) with 8:28 remaining before Eastern replied with a 23-8 spurt over the final 7:51 to take a 51-33 lead into the half. 

Eastern continued to push over the final 20 minutes, taking a 31-point lead off a 17-4 run to open the second half.  Old Westbury trimmed the deficit down to 22 points with an 8-0 from 5:41 to 4:18.

Jasmine Robinson poured in game-highs of 25 points (7-15 FG) and four steals to lead Old Westbury.  Olivia Ilardi followed with 12 points (5-6 FG, 2-2 3FG) off the bench while Gallagher and Raven Pentz chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Gallagher also contributed a career-high six assists to go along with two steals and one block.  Crystal Barnes rejected two shots and pulled down four boards. 

Meghan Nowak scored 24 points and Emily Lavin went for 22 to lead Eastern to victory.  Nowak added 11 rebounds, five blocks and four assists while Taylor Price chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 42.4 percent from the field (25-59), 50 percent from three-point territory (7-14) and 62.5 percent from the free-throw line (10-16) while Eastern knocked down 52.7 percent from the floor (39-74), 31.8 percent from beyond the arc (7-22) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (7-8).  Eastern won the boards battle, 51-20, scoring 18 second-chance points off 20 offensive rebounds.  Eastern also held the advantage in assists (21-15), steals (11-10) and blocks (6-4).  Eastern netted 19 points off 18 Panther miscues as Old Westbury forced the Eagles into 20 turnovers.    


NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Saturday (Nov. 29) for a non-conference tilt against the New Rochelle Blue Angels Hunter Hawks at 6 p.m. in the opening game of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament, hosted by Medar Evers College from Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, New York.
