Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team closed out its 2014 calendar year with a 74-67 non-conference win against the visiting Centenary Cyclones on Saturday afternoon from Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury now stands at 6-4 on the season, while Centenary moved to 2-6.

Jasmine Robinson's layup five seconds into play broke the scoring ice for an early Old Westbury advantage.  Centenary's Mallory George then knocked down a jumper 35 seconds later to tie the game at two.  Olivia Ilardi and Clarissa Gallagher answered with layups to put Old Westbury up by four (6-2) with 17:07 remaining.  Following a Raven Pentz three pointer, Centenary replied with a 10-1 run from 12:39 to 10:12 for a 20-14 lead.  Pentz then dropped in a layup to spark a 9-0 Panther run over the next 4:08 to grab a five-point advantage (25-20).  Moments later, Ilardi's jumper put Old Westbury ahead by six points (33-37) before Centenary's Ally Fugnitti hit a triple to cut their deficit to three points (33-30) at the half.

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the second half before Rachel Edwards sank a jumper to give Centenary a 44-40 lead with 14:36 showing on the clock.  Old Westbury took the lead for good with a 9-0 run from 13:59 to 10:38, capped by Gallagher's jumper for a 51-44 lead.  Clinging to a two-point lead, Old Westbury held its largest lead of the game off a 9-0 run from 8:34 to 6:29 for an 11-point cushion (62-51).  Centenary got within four points in the closing moments, but Old Westbury proved to be too much down the stretch for a 74-67 final.

Gallagher led the Panthers to victory with 18 points (6-11 FG) and four assists to go along with two steals and one blocked shot.  Robinson followed with 13 points, four steals and four rebounds while Pentz added 13 points and six rebounds.  Ilardi contributed 11 points and tied a career-high with nine rebounds as Crystal Barnes tallied 10 rebounds, two steals and one block.  Kendra Jordan and Bridgid McNeill sparked the Panthers defensively off the bench, nabbing three and two steals, respectively.

Centenary was led by George's 18 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.  Fugnitti added 15 points, six assists and two steals in defeat for the Cyclones.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 33.3 percent from the field (27-81), 36.8 percent from three-point range (7-19) and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line (13-18) while Centenary hit 38.8 percent from the floor (26-67), 57.1 percent from beyond the arc (8-14) and 41.2 percent from the charity stripe (7-17).  Old Westbury also won the boards battle, 56-50, scoring 17 second-chance points off 24 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury finished the game with the edge in steals (14-8) and blocks (5-4).  Centenary converted 13 Panther turnovers into 24 points while Old Westbury turned 21 Cyclone miscues into 21 points.
