Courtney Gallagher Extends Scoring Streak as @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse Clashes with Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-4 decision on the road Wednesday afternoon to the Vassar Brewers from Weinberg Field.  The loss sent Old Westbury's record to 1-5 on the season while Vassar improved to 4-1.

Both teams played even for the opening 4:38 until Vassar jumped ahead with four goals over the next 8:15 to take control of the game.  Old Westbury answered with back-to-back goals by Maria Dischley (16:06) and Courtney Gallagher (15:37) to slice the deficit in half.  Vassar then netted goals at 12:31 and 5:23 to own a 6-2 lead at the half.  

Kim Mulvehill scored her second goal of the game 1:14 into second half play before Sara Bey rattled the back of the cage for her ninth goal of the season for the Panthers.  Vassar tacked on six more goals before Gallagher ripped the rope for her team-leading 11th goal of the season with 3:04 to close out the scoring.

Gallagher's multi-goal performance was her fifth of the campaign while Bey and Dischley each scored for the second consecutive game.  Bey also added a game-high four draw controls while Jessica Walker followed with two.  Bey, Christine Fernandez and Caitlin Thomas each scooped up two ground balls as Gallagher and Thomas each contributed a pair of caused turnovers.  Jackie Cartagena made four saves in goal for the Panthers.

Mulvill finished with three goals to lead Vassar while Leigh Anne Baldwin grabbed four ground balls.  Tyler Mallory made two saves in the first half to snag the Vassar win while Kate Pula and Hilary McDonnell split time in the second half to preserve the victory. 

MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the field for a Skyline Conference opener on Saturday (Mar. 22) against the Mount Saint Mary Knights in Patchogue, New York.  Start time is slated for 7 p.m. from Danzi Stadium.
