Bey, Gallagher Net Two Points Each as @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse Challenge Kean

UNION, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's lacrosse team fell to the Kean Cougars 20-5 on Saturday afternoon at Kean Alumni Field.  The loss drops the Panthers record to 1-2, while the Cougars advance their record to 3-0.

Behind Sara Bey and Courtney Gallagher notching two-goal performances, Zuri Reaves-Bey netted one goal to wrap up the Panthers' scoring efforts.  Bey had a huge game in addition to her second consecutive multi-goal game, picking up two ground balls and a game-high six draw controls (career-high).  Gallagher netted 2-of-3 free position shots to go along with three draw controls.  Jessica Walker scooped up a team-leading three ground balls and caused two turnovers while Jordan Schildt added a pair of caused turnovers.       

Jackie Cartagena (1-2) stopped a career-high 12 shots in net for Old Westbury while Daniella Wagenti (3-0) made four saves to earn Kean's victory.  

Kean was led in goals by Julie Knodt and Jordan Blanda, who each racked up four scores on the day.  Knodt piled on two assists as Maggie Brocklebank (3 goals, 3 assists) matched her in overall points.  In total, eight players contributed to the Cougars' point total.

The Panthers led the game in saves (12-4) and totaled a season-high 11 draw controls while Kean held the advantage in ground balls (23-10) and shots (41-9). 

Samantha Gnapp broke the scoring ice for Kean 28 seconds into play before Old Westbury pulled ahead to a one goal lead after tallies by Gallagher (28:21) and Bey (27:22) early in the game.  Kean answered with Blanda and Brocklebank goals to reclaim the lead with 21:14 remaining.  Bey netted her second goal of the game to knot the game at 3-all before Knodt and Brocklebank added goals to put Kean up for good.  Reaves-Bey then broke the streak at 11:50, finding the back of the net for her first career goal to trim the deficit to 5-4.   Kean rattled off four straight goals over the next 9:04 before Gallagher netted her 10th career multi-goal game with 2:14 remaining in the half.  Gnapp scored with 1:02 left to set to score at 10-5 at the break. 

Kean closed out the final 30 minutes with 10 goals to earn the victory.  

DREW RANGERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the field for a non-conference battle on Tuesday (Mar. 11), taking on the Drew Rangers in Patchogue, New York.  Start time is slated for 1:30 p.m. from Danzi Stadium.
